This Next Generation episode starred the late Paul Winfield, who we remember as Captain Terrell in Wrath of Khan. It was about trying to communicate with a race that spoke in metaphor. One example of a phrase was “Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra.” The meaning was communication (or friendship) as a result of shared struggle. Affirmation: What I need to know from others lies not only in, but between and around their spoken words. When I open my mind to these other levels, I hear fully.
